NQF Level 3 | Skills Programme – Intermediate Emergency First Aid Responder

The purpose of the NQF Level 3 Intermediate Emergency First Aid Responder skills programme is to equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to provide effective intermediate-level first aid and emergency care in workplace and community settings. Learners who complete this programme will be able to respond confidently to a range of medical and trauma-related emergencies while awaiting professional medical assistance.

The programme develops competencies in patient assessment, management of common medical conditions, control of bleeding, treatment of fractures, burns, shock, and other emergency situations. Learners will also gain skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and application of emergency response procedures in line with safety and legal requirements. By acquiring these capabilities, learners will be equipped to stabilise patients, reduce the severity of injuries, and contribute to a safer workplace and community. They will be able to:

  • Perform CPR and use an AED in line with accepted emergency response protocols

  • Manage medical and trauma emergencies, including bleeding, fractures, burns, and shock

  • Apply safety, communication, and legal principles during emergency response situations
